ENCLOSURE

N 98

Inspector William Stanton charged with gross

neglect of duty in not discovering and in not reporting a

gambling house at No. 2, Wa Lane,

San Yin states:-Before I was aumitted to Vic-

toria Gaol I was keeping a gambling house at No. 2, Wa Lane.

The gambling was sometimes carried on at No.5 Wa Lane and

sometimes at No. 2 Ng Kwai Fong. I have been carrying on the

gambling for about 5 years. The gambling used to commence at

6 o'clock in the morning, and was closed at midnight. The gam

bling was carried on the whole of the time from 6 am. to

midnight. The gambling was not carried on continously during

the whole five years. It was sometimes carried on and some-

times closed. From the 11th.moon of last year up to the

time of closing it was carried on every day.

The business carried on was a large business.

I was able to keep open the gambling house

because I bribed all the Police. I know the Inspector presert

He is 43,Inspector Stanton. I kept a record of the bribes

paid. I kept in the record a record of the names & numbers of

the Police who received bribes.

I recognise the paper produced. It shows that

bribes were paid on the 1st. & 2nd. day of the 1st.moon (Chi-

nese) to certain Police. There is an entry referring to the

Inspector
